Understanding Facial Aging
Facial Aging is a dynamic process that involves changes in the bone structure, soft tissues, and skin. Older techniques of cosmetic surgery fail to address the entirety of facial aging changes, leaving behind an unnatural hollow, “pulled-tight” look.
A customized 3-D treatment plan is the best way to achieve a natural rejuvenated look. Michael Neimkin, M.D., at the Ophthalmic Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center in Atlanta, GA, offers a wide array of state-of-the-art procedures to deliver that natural rejuvenated look his patients desire. During your initial consultation, Dr. Neimkin will analyze the structure of your face, assess your needs, and recommend the most cost-effective and thorough approach to meet your needs.
A brief description of each procedure follows. To learn more, click on the link provided for each specific procedure:
One of the first aging changes is the appearance of “puffiness” or extra fullness in the upper eyelids, and “bags”, dark circles or eye hollows in the lower eyelids. Eyelid blepharoplasty can restore youthful contours by removing excess skin, repositioning the eyelid fat, and smoothing the eyelid-cheek junction. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty often includes laser skin resurfacing to rejuvenate the skin.
Heavy eyebrows can contribute to the fullness of the eyelids and forehead wrinkling. An eyebrow or forehead lift can restore the eyebrows to the natural position and eliminate forehead wrinkles. We offer the most advanced techniques, including endoscopic brow and forehead lifting to achieve the best results.
The cheeks tend to sag with age and loss of elasticity. A mid-face lift can restore youthful contour to the cheeks and lower eyelids. This is usually done in conjunction with a lower eyelid blepharoplasty. Surgical correction is performed by utilizing eyelid incisions or the endoscopic technique.
A hallmark of aging is the loss of fat and “volume” in the face which leads to wrinkles, hollowness, thin lips, sunken cheeks, or skin depressions. Fat transfer restores youthful volume by transferring fat from the stomach, thighs, or buttocks to provide a lasting result.
Each patient is unique; therefore, results will vary.
